Inspiration
Saw Christopher Nolan’s film and just loved the look, the settings and the general accoutrement of the ancients! Then I thought where does he keep all his stuff…it was also inspired in part by a piece I saw in an exhibition called Holy Pop and they had assembled a wall of tools that a real graffiti artist used. Bolt cutters, head torches, spray cans, face mask and so on, amazing. I’ve kind’ ve done the same for Odysseus.

Process
Reduction prints are made by repeatedly carving into a wood block of shina plywood in this case and then printing a colour. Usually colour printing goes from lighter colours to a final darker colour. Wood is removed each time until eventually the block is completely gone or the print is complete. Because the block is progressively carved away, no more prints can be made.
If it is a one colour block this can be an open edition i.e. many prints can be made. If it is a numbered edition that is the number of prints that will ever exist, no more can be made.
